"I tried to teach my child with books,
he gave me only puzzled looks.
"I tried to teach my child with words,
they passed him by unheard.
"In despair I turned aside,
'How will I teach my child?',
I cried.
"Into my hand he put the key,
'Come' he said, 'and play with me!' "

Mission and Vision of PlayJourneys, Inc.

PlayJourneys promotes growth and healing for children, adults and families by providing excellence in play therapy and mental health services in a child- and adult-friendly environment. PlayJourneys is dedicated to promoting growth and excellence in the field of play therapy by providing educational workshops and supervision in play therapy.

PlayJourneys is a private counseling service for children, adults and families. Specializing in play therapy for children, PlayJourneys provides a variety of therapy services to clients. Experiential therapies are used with adults, as well as traditional "talk" therapy. PlayJourneys seeks to empower families and encourage their growth by viewing parents as collaborators in their child(ren)'s treatment.

PlayJourneys seeks to enlarge and expand the awareness of play therapy as the therapy of choice for children by educating professionals through workshops and supervision. Further, PlayJourneys seeks to promote play therapy as a viable, cost-effective modality to managed care providers, insurance companies, and the legal system.

PlayJourneys primarily provides play therapy to children who have a variety of issues. Play therapy is the use of children's language, play, to communicate with children. Children feel more comfortable when playing and can therefore distance from painful feelings safely and yet work through them symbolically through play. A variety of toys is offered in order to enable the widest range of expression of issues and feelings in children. PlayJourneys works with abused children, foster and adopted children and their families, children of divorce, and many other issues. Adults abused as children and/or otherwise traumatized is another population that PlayJourneys serves by providing experiential therapies such as art and sandplay therapy as an adjunct to traditional talk therapy.
